Take your workout Outdoors
Hello FGF champions
Summer is in a full swing and today I wanted to share some information about training outdoors. Don’t let the heat stop you from working out outside as there are numerous benefits to it.
First of all it’s natural antidepressant.
Outdoor exercise can help ward off seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and anxiety because sunshine naturally increases serotonin, a hormone that affects your mood, as well as working out itself so it’s a win win!
Second, It provides mental relief. Outdoor exercise is enjoyable and feels more like play than a chore.
Vitamin D! Exposure to sunlight while exercising outside can increase your vitamin D intake, which can help your bones, teeth, and immune system. Exercising outside can also help you burn more calories, improve your cognitive and cardiac function, get you better sleep and much more!
Well I hope I convinced you and now those promised tips to make your workout safer and more enjoyable.
First and foremost is the Timing. Typically, temperatures tend to rise around noon and into the midday which leaves you with two time slots: early morning and evening.
Whichever activity you prefer, plan ahead and see if you can enjoy it when the heat is not in its peak.
Dress accordingly. Wearing lighter colors, as well as those made with sweat-wicking fabrics. Throw in a wide-brimmed hat or sun visor, UV glasses and you’re good to go!
Wait, one more thing I have to add here is the good ol’ sunscreen! Be sure to apply and reapply it according to the directions printed in the back of the bottle.
Stay hydrated! Dehydration is no joke. And it can further lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke if you’re not too careful. Pay attention to these signs when you are training out in the heat: muscle cramps, headaches, nausea, fatigue, weakness, slow pulse, dark urine.
To avoid this bring a water bottle with you. Take small sips during your workout even if you don’t feel thirsty. Add a pinch of salt and squeeze of a lime juice to make your own electrolyte drink. It tasted so good and no artificial dyes or sugar!
Ok guys, there you have it. Take your workout outside, have fun with it, stay safe and healthy!!
Best,
FGF Trainer Daria
