How would the book about your life go?

The title of today’s blog comes from an experience I had this week which I believe was the universe trying to teach me something.  It’s been a hectic and crazy week with my septic backing up, CO2 alarm going off, fire department at my house, among a few other things which has caused chaos.  I had an interaction on Wednesday though which really made me put things into perspective and in a way grounded me in a moment of frustration.  This is where the title of the blog came from today, so stick around for a minute and hopefully you may find it helpful.

Like I said it happened on a Wednesday, septic backed up at the house was running around like crazy trying to do errands, grab tools, do virtual sessions, and all the fun things that come with being an adult.  I was in between errands and decided to stop at a local bakery for coffee and to do another session I had scheduled.  I arrived 20 mins before my session started, grabbed my coffee, and took an empty seat next to an older gentleman.  After some wifi issues he and I struck up a conversation about where each of us were from and so on, which is what people from the midwest do, to which he showed me he was just finishing a book on his life and the many experiences he has had.  He also mentioned that his wife passed away a year ago, as I checked the time on my phone I was getting a little antsy as my session start time was approaching.

The gentleman and I started going through the table of contents of his book and he was giving me an overview of the many things he has experienced in his life.  From being born in Salem, MA and intrigued with witchcraft, to moving to California and being a professor at Berkeley, to buying a Yacht to spend time on the water, and eventually moving to Colorado where he resides today.  He told me about his many travels and places he has experienced as my time to start the session inched closer.  I politely explained I needed to take a call but if he was still around when I was done we could pick back up.

After my session ended I began to pack up my stuff to head to my next errand of the day but Jerry was there waiting for me to continue scanning through his table of contents.  I had the time and was intrigued by his story, I also have recently lost both of my grandmothers whom I dearly miss being able to call and chat with.  Again I thought this is the universe telling me to slow down, so we continued on to the different celebrities he has met and the special experiences he and his wife had shared.  After another 15 mins or so it was time for me to take off so we said our goodbyes and I told him I’d purchase his book when it comes out in a few weeks and that hopefully we will cross paths again soon.

Later on that night I was reflecting with my wife in bed about my experience with Jerry and was thankful for her being there.  You see the thing is we gotta slow it down, put our phone down, and really experience the things in life that matter.  We need to travel, to get out and see the world and other perspectives so we are able to see life from all angles.  We need to really make time for the people we love because unfortunately they won't always be there.  Take some risks along the way, be bold but be compassionate in your approach to life.  Time is of the essence and one day all of us will be nearing the end, perhaps at a coffee shop reflecting on our life.  So I come back to the title of my blog, how would the book of your life go, make sure you do your best to fill the table of contents with a lifetime of memories and meaningful relationships!

I’ll release more info about Jerry’s book once it comes out!
