Happiness is in the Habits

Lately I’ve been super focused on happiness and in what and where we can find it as human beings.  I’ve read several books over the last few years that talk about life and the things we experience in our journey.  There’s a lot going on around us constantly and oftentimes it can be  a bit overwhelming.  We’ve seen an increase in anxiety over the years and many people are searching for the best way to relax and find happiness.  Through personal experience and my readings I believe that happiness is found in the habits and small things we do daily, weekly, and so on.

When we think about the word habit it can be very broad, it can be both positive and negative because the habits we do often determine our mood, energy, etc.  Personally I think the most important habit people should practice is consistent sleep.  Sleep is the building block for everything because when we sleep consistently then everything falls into place because our energy level is up, our body runs optimally, and things just begin to line up.  A good analogy and probably one that hinders our sleep is our phone but they run out of juice as well, we have to throw it on the charger each day just like we should recharge our own battery.  A good place to start is to consistently try to go to bed at the same time each night and awake at the same time each day.  Before long our body becomes familiar with our sleep pattern and you begin to naturally go to sleep and awake at the same time each night and day.

The next place we should focus on good habits for happiness is in the kitchen.  When we make it a habit of planning and preparing our meals and compound that with good sleep then look out because you can accomplish anything with the energy and clarity you’ll feel.  In the day and age when we can get anything delivered to our door for most people it’s important to build the habit of cooking and avoid eating out sparingly.  When we shop the perimeter of the grocery store, build our meals from scratch, and meal prep for when we will be too busy these are habits that are game changers!

Movement is the last habit to highlight that can make a huge difference.  When we get a good amount of steps in each day the body feels primed and ready to go.  With most of us sitting down now more than ever for work or to watch tv, it’s important to stay consistent with our movement.  A good workout plan, accompanied with light stretching, and daily walking can be another habit compounded with the ones above that can really help you find a great quality of life.  The main thing to understand with working out is that it’s more about consistency rather than intensity especially as we get older.  Our goal should be to move better for a quality of life and build habits to help us grow older with ease.  These habits mentioned above are just main points but keep in mind there’s plenty of micro habits such as reading, cold plunging, meditating, etc.  that can help fill our cup as well.  If you need help finding a place to start, reach out to FGF for Free Consult, you got this!
