Balanced Nutrition Equals a Balanced Life!

I think more than ever we are facing an epidemic of readily available bad food.  The temptations are everywhere to indulge cheaply and quickly before analyzing the consequences of your choice.  It takes a strong will and mindset to stay focused on eating balanced nutrition and indulging in the bad stuff sparingly.  Here is an brief overview of balanced nutrition and some tips to help you stay on track.

First of all when we say balanced nutrition that can mean a wide variety of things to each of us.  To me a balanced nutritional plan is one that includes lean protein(chicken, fish, beans,eggs, seafood), healthy carbs (more veggies than fruits to avoid too much sugar), grains(rice, couscous, whole wheat pasta), dairy in moderation, and fats and oils sparingly.  Keep in mind you do need certain fats in your nutrition to help with many bodily functions.  The main thing for everyone is to keep your portions under control and occasionally indulge in some of your favorite foods.  Its important to have a strong mindset on cheat days and be able to keep it moderate then get right back on track.  Its important to not feel guilty when you mess up or over indulge because none of us are perfect.  We all have an idea of what is good for us and vice versa, just be consistently good and let the rest fall in place.

A few tips that have helped me over the years are to definitely plan ahead.  Shop on Sundays and set yourself up for success by knowing ahead of time what you'll eat.  This will not only help you save money but keep you from making sporadic decisions.  Plan ahead or Plan to fail!  Farmers market are great this time of year to ensure you are getting your fruits and veggies in.  Focus on eating a colorful plate, eat slow, and listen to your body.  Make sure you are staying hydrated too as water is a diuretic and is just overall good for our bodies.   Let FGF help you get back on track with a fitness and nutrition routine today!
